ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

Bachelor of Theology And Diploma in Theology

All programme students are assigned to either the B.Th or the Diploma programmes at present.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Diploma in Theology: This course is designed to equip Christians for deeper Biblical insight and skills for ministry.

To be considered for enrollment on the Diploma programme a student must:

Category A
•	Be over 18 years of age.
•	Have at least 6 O/L passes or equivalent.
•	Complete an Application Form and provide all the relevant information and documents required by it.
•	Pass a Bible Knowledge exam.
•	Be successful at an interview with a CTS panel.

Category B
•	Be over 25 years old.
•	Complete an Application Form and provide all the relevant information and documents required by it.
•	Successfully complete 6 courses at CTS (a minimum of 12 credits).
•	Pass a Bible Knowledge exam.
•	Be successful at an interview with a CTS panel.

Bachelor of Theology (BTh): This course is designed to train for pastoral and teaching ministry and similar positions of leadership in the church.

To be considered for enrollment on the Degree programme you must:
•	Have at least 3 passes at Advanced Level (A/L) or equivalent.
•	Be over 20 years of age.
•	Complete an Application Form and provide all the relevant information and documents required by it.
•	Pass a Bible Knowledge exam.
•	Be successful at your interview with a CTS panel.

MA Programme - Commencing April 2007

The CTS Master of Arts Programmes

At CTS we are tremendously excited about our MA in Biblical Studies and Intercultural (Mission) Studies because it provides dedicated students of the Christian faith an excellent opportunity to be exposed to proven scholars from around world. This will equip Christians in the ministry and the marketplace to become cutting edge theologians: practitioners able to engage with integrity both with the Bible and their cultural context.

Faculty
The faculty comprises both local and overseas scholars with academic and practical expertise in their field.

Programme Requirements
•	For students with an undergraduate theology degree (BTh or equivalent): 30 credits,
•	For those with a non-theological undergraduate degree: 60 credits.
•	All students are required to submit a dissertation within their chosen track (Biblical Studies or Intercultural Studies).

The Outcomes

Candidates who are awarded the MA degree will have:
•	Clarified their understanding in a particular field within theological study that is of central importance for the church in the world today.
•	Debated, evaluated and articulated clear responses to the spectrum of scholarly research in the field.
•	Submitted a dissertation that demonstrates a clear ability to gather relevant data and apply critical powers of analysis and evaluation to the data in an extended piece of writing.

Course Structure

•	Each course requires 36 lecture hours: usually over a period of 4 weeks (see chart below for detailed breakdown).
•	Satisfactory completion of each course will earn you 3 credits.
•	Courses will be offered at a frequency of approximately 7 a year.

The MA programme can be completed within two years by those with an undergraduate theological degree.

Registration Costs
Rs 5,000 registration fee plus
Rs 5,000 annual fee from the 2nd year plus
Rs 2,000 per course

Registration Procedure:

You may apply and join the MA at any point in the year
•	Upon completion, hand the application to the registrar (registrar@cts.lk), with registration fee and the required attachments.
•	All applicants who have not previously studied in the English medium at degree level are expected to pass an English language exam.
•	You will be required to attend an interview and satisfy the panel as to academic ability, spiritual maturity and general readiness for such a course of study.

The CTS MA Programmes will be particularly helpful to:

Theology Graduates who have shown aptitude for higher studies and wish to develop their understanding in a particular field to Master’s level, with a view to theological teaching and writing.

Church Leaders who have the opportunity to return to study in order to update their knowledge and acquire skills relevant to their role as teachers and preachers.

Christians in the marketplace with academic ability who wish to relate faith and life and will provide leadership in education and training in the church.
