Since 2001, CTS has been extending its leadership training programmes to the north, south and north central regions of Sri Lanka; and is currently engaged in equipping over two hundred Christians from various walks of life to be effective witnesses, in their particular life situations.
Yaalpanam (CTS Jaffna)
Our northern extension programme began in Jaffna in the year 2001 and has grown steadily since. The CTS Jaffna Centre is situated in Chundukkuli. Students come to us from Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Vanni districts. The first-ever graduation ceremony of the Yaalpanam centre was held on 1 September 2007 (see picture above). 11 diplomas, 8 Stage 2 certificates, and 7 Stage 1 certificates were awarded at this historic event. On the initiative of CTS alumni based in Jaffna, the first of three satellite centres was set up in Vadukoddai, in March 2007. All instruction at the Yaalpanam centre as well as the satellite centres are in Tamil, the first language of the residents of the peninsula.
Ruhuna (CTS Matara)
Following on from the successful programme in Jaffna CTS was happy to launch the Ruhunu extension in April 2005, in Matara. Instruction is in Sinhala and the programme caters to pastors, and believers in the southern regions who have been denied quality biblical and theological training for the past several decades. The south of Sri Lanka is fast becoming a location where interest in education is burgeoning: this is true also of the growing church in the region. Thus the CTS Extension Centre is ideally placed to become a valuable resource centre to individuals and churches in the south.
Rajarata (CTS Anuradhapura)
This extension programme commenced in September 2006. A number of the students make a difficult journey of at least 100km to attend the monthly classes. Some of the students have absolutely no writing or reading skills. However, this has not hampered their participation and learning: their passion, enthusiasm and thirst for the Word are inspirational. Lectures are conducted in Sinhala. The students are a mix of lay and church leaders. CTS’ interdenominational policy has encouraged members from the various denominations of the region to come together to benefit from this initiative. Upto this point there has been no formal training quite like this in the Rajarata.
